Code of Practice for Research
One of our core functions is to promote models of good practice in the governance, management and general conduct of research. Although UKRIO has a particular interest in the disciplines of health and biomedical sciences, we aim to produce advice and guidance that is applicable to all fields of research.
A strong emphasis on promoting good practice is seen as preferable to a regulatory or statutory model.
A number of policies and frameworks exist, both in the UK and overseas, which aim to promote good practice in the conduct of research. UKRIO has reviewed the existing codes and guidance documents and is producing a practical guidance document - the Code of Practice for Research.
This will provide the research community with practical advice on the issues which need to be addressed to enable researchers and employers of researchers to practise effective governance of research and promote integrity in research within their institutions. The Code will be designed to work with UKRIO's Procedure for Investigating Allegations of Misconduct in Research.
Our aim is to formulate clear principles and detailed guidelines which are informed by the best elements of existing guidance and which might serve as a benchmark for researchers working in the health and biomedical sciences and beyond.
