Dr Anita Thomas

Dr Anita Thomas OBE PhD FRCP is a consultant physician in acute medicine at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

Dr Thomas chairs the Training Committee for PMETB, and is a member of the GMC Education Committee, the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, and the UK Panel for Research Integrity in Health and Biomedical Sciences.

She recently chaired the independent expert working group on the prevention of venous thromboembolism in hospitalised patients (VTE) at the invitation of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), now chairs the CMO’s VTE Implementation Working Group and is the CMO’s representative on the Human Genetics Commission.

Dr Thomas also is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition for the Food Standards Agency and Department of Health, and the Lowermoor Sub group of the Committee on Toxicity.
