Professor Peter Aggett

Peter Aggett is head of the Lancashire School of Health and Postgraduate Medicine at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston.
Previously he has been Head of the Department of Nutrition, Diet and Health, and an Assistant Director at the Institute of Food Research, Norwich. Before that he was a Senior Lecturer in Child Health and Nutrition, and a Rank Prize Funds Research Fellow at the University of Aberdeen and the Rowett Research Institute.
These posts provided extensive experience in the practice and management of laboratory and clinical research, and experience of the culture and expectations associated with funding from industry, research councils, government agencies and departments, the European Union, and Trusts.
He has additional experience in the translation of research to practice and policy, and establishing research programmes via work on various Department of Health, Food Standards Agency, and other governmental advisory committees, EC and WHO, IAEA and FAO expert groups and research advisory and review panels.
He has an interest in research training and education, and in its general relevance, and has been involved with collaborative initiatives in Aberdeen, East Anglia and, currently, Central Lancashire to create programmes that support researchers to develop their research skills, and to acquire appropriate attitudes and competencies to relate their research agenda, practice and promotion to external needs and standards.
